This 640 unit residential site is on the former contaminated Peebles Parsons Ltd transformer construction factory. Developed as a joint venture, a mix of high quality and affordable housing was included.
Apart from decontamination affecting the programme, the accelerated build out meant that optimising design and construction methods would be a key success. As such, offsite prefabrication of a number of items, including foundations and steelwork, proved a very worthwhile exercise.
A key item in the design brief was aesthetics and the architectural detailing was innovative to say the least. This offered many structural challenges. However, Taylor Wimpey, the architect and ourselves worked as a complete team. We used our passed experience of medium rise residential structures creating details that were elegant and effective but unfortunately from our view point are hidden within the structure.
